The Tuf Crab Captain and His XtraTuf Bride

The Tuf Crab Captain and His XtraTuf Bride

We got married at the end of the Homer Spit in Homer, Alaska, on April 13, 2011. We arrived in Homer on April 12 and stepped out of our SUV into 12” of heavy wet spring snow. Since we had planned on getting married outside I knew instantly that the satin ballet flats I had planned on wearing were not going to work. Needless to say I had a small meltdown! My husband saved the day and took me to the marine supply store and bought me a pair of XtraTufs. I thought a pair of wool socks would be appropriate, so I added those to the outfit as well. So, there you have it… got married outside in Homer, AK in XtraTufs. I had a chance to go back to AK in August to do some fishing and took them with me. XtraTufs are the VERY BEST and I also have some very unique wedding pictures! Photo Gallery (click on image to...

Tuf Girls Calendar

Tuf Girls Calendar

During some research on Xtratuf Boots I came across a website in the early stages of creating an Xtratuf Calendar. The website is called www.tufgirls.com. Tuf Girls is working on building a calendar that will feature real honest to goodness working girls (not just girls paid to pretend to work) wearing Xtratuf boots. I love this idea not only because of my love for the boots, the fact they are using real working people, but also the fact they are also based out of Bellingham Washington, my old stomping grounds! The calendar release date is not yet scheduled, but we will certainly keep you informed as soon as they are ready to release the Tuf Girls Calendar! Here are a few preview photos that could end up in the calendar (click on picture to...

Xtratuf: An Alaskan Way of Life

Xtratuf: An Alaskan Way of Life by Larry Johansen For any Xtratuf boot fan you know the value of a warm comfortable pair of boots. Well, nobody knows that better than Larry Johansen Photographer and Author of the book Xtratuf: An Alaskan Way of Life. How do you spot a real live local brave enough to live in the Alaskan rain forest? The first clue is that they are looking you in the eye. The dead give away is they are wearing the ugliest brown boot you ever saw. Young or old, rich or poor, hip or old-school, liberal or conservative, man or woman – all wear the “boot.” Why even the Governor of Alaska wore XTRATUF boots to his inaugural ball. But is it really about the boot? You decide! For the Xtratuf enthusiast in each of us, this book points out just how normal we are…at least to ourselves Larry captures the essence of the Xtratuf boot fan, and how we live our lives. This book is an excellent coffee table book to entertain both the believers and non-believers....

This is Southeast Alaska’s answer to Spain’s “Running of the Bulls”. But unlike the Pamplona spectacle, the greatest hazard in the “Running of the Boots” is being run over by an oncoming herd of Sitkans wearing Xtratuf rubber boots and the zaniest costumes.
